1986 was the year that the Fairview Park Education Foundation established its first scholarship. Since then the Education Foundation has been awarding scholarships to outstanding Fairview High School seniors. This year, the Education Foundation proudly awards the following scholarships:

Fairview Park Education Foundation Scholarships 

Dr. John Babel Memorial Scholarship: Established in 2016 in honor of the 3rd Superintendent of the school system, Dr. John Babel Jr. Dr. Babel was born in upstate New York, and upon his high school graduation was intent on staying on the farm.  Upon encouragement from his father, he attended a two-year agricultural college.  As a result of the advice from his high school teacher he continued with his schooling and pursued his teaching certification and later his Masters at Cornell University.  He was first in his family to attain a college degree and continued on to complete his PhD from The Ohio State University.  He taught at Cleveland State University for 25 years and was a member of the Rotarian Club for over 35 years. Dr. Babel’s life was changed by those in education, and he believed in the value of lifelong learning.

Our winner is Olivia Hanton – $1,000.00 scholarship

Olivia ranks 18th in her class and will graduate with a 4.1 GPA. She will attend Miami University of Ohio this coming fall. While attending Fairview High School, Olivia took a number of Honors classes, AP classes and also took classes at Tri C. Olivia was also very active in school activities. She was a member of Student Council, Key Club, Stagecrafters, and a member of the National Honors Society. Being inducted in to the National Honors Society was one of her proudest moments at Fairview. She was also a member of the Fairview High School Volleyball program for four years. Olivia believes her two greatest strengths are her strong leadership abilities and her strong work ethic. In the next ten years, Olivia wants to continue to learn, to grow as a person and to become more independent. She also wants to continue volunteering and helping people in need.

Frank W. Barr Memorial Scholarship:  Established in 1990 in honor of the 2 nd Superintendent of the school system who served from 1964 to 1979. Dr. Barr was a member of many professional educational organizations as well as a member of many community groups.

Our winner is Cosette Zupan – $500 scholarship

Cosette ranks 16th in her class and will graduate with a 4.1 GPA. She has taken numerous Post-Secondary classes; College Composition I & II, Personal Finance, College Physics, Introduction to Philosophy, and General Psychology to name a few. She will attend Miami University of Ohio in the fall and will major in Speech and Language Pathology. While attending Fairview High School, Cosette was a member of the Student Council, Key Club, Chamber Orchestra, and the National Honors Society. She was also a member of the Fairview High School Volleyball program for four years. She has received numerous awards while in high school; Academic Athlete Award, Scholar Athlete Award, Academic Scholar award, Cuyahoga Community College Honors Program Award and being a member of the FHS Scarlet Court. In the next ten years, Cosette wants to minor in Spanish in college in order to improve her bilingual abilities and to take advantage of studying abroad opportunities. She wants to become a more cultured individual.

Mary Lou Chalfant Memorial Social Studies Scholarship:  Mary Lou was a social studies teacher at Fairview High School for many years. She retired from the Fairview Park Schools and after her retirement established this scholarship.

Our winner is Anxhela Dalipi – $500 scholarship

Anxhela ranks 3rd in her class and will graduate with a 4.44 GPA. She will attend Baldwin Wallace University in the fall and major in Political Science/ Pre Law. While at Fairview High School, she was a member of Key Club, Stagecrafters, and National Honors Society. She has also held down apart time job working at Marshall’s and she plans to work while attending college in order to help pay for her college expenses. Anxhela believes her two greatest strengths are her work ethic and her very responsible attitude toward her school work. In the next ten years, Anxhela wants to help treat her parents to anything they would like in order to repay them for all the sacrifices they made for her so that she could have this wonderful life.

Bruce Linden Cherkala Memorial Scholarship:   Established in 1991 by the Cherkala family as a memory to their son, Bruce, who graduated from Fairview High School in 1968. While at FHS, Bruce was an honor student, letterman in football and tennis. Bruce went on to graduate from Denison University and then Case Western Reserve School of Medicine with a M.D. degree. Bruce passed away suddenly in 1982.

Our winner is Zackary Van Zante – $500 scholarship

Zackary ranks 14th in his class and will graduate with a 4.22 GPA. He will attend Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana and major in Mechanical Engineering. Zackary was a member of the Academic Team, Technology Team, and Stagecrafters. He is also very active in Scouting where he has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He has also won recognition in National Technological Honors Society, Order of the Arrow,(Honors in Scouting), 1st in Hyland Software’s Innovation Showdown, and Principal’s List (2014—2018). Zackary feels that his determination and problem solving skills are his two greatest strengths and have contributed to immense success in and out of school. One of Zackary’s goals in his future is to work on and possibly invent a new renewable energy sources so are society can become more efficient and cost effective.

Maureen Cundiff Memorial Scholarship: Established as a scholarship in 2007 through donations made by community and friends for the Cundiff Family. Maureen was a very active person in the community, including being a member of the board of education, president of PTA, member of the Gemini Committee and many more organizations. She gave so much of herself to her family and community that having a scholarship in her memory is a wonderful way to remember her.
Our winner is Elene Kaufmann – $500 scholarship

Elene ranks 67th in her class and will graduate with a 3.6GPA. She will attend Bowling Green State University in the fall and will major in Health Care Administration. She has been a member of the National Honors Society, Student Council and Orchestra. She was also a member of the Varsity Cross Country Team (2014-2017), Varsity Swimming and Diving Team (2014-2018), and the Varsity Track and Field Team (2015-2018). Elene was voted MVP three times for Cross Country and once for Track and Field. During her summers, Elene worked as a Volunteer at University Hospital (2016-current) and was a Youth Volunteer at the Cleveland Clinic. She sees her two greatest strengths as her perseverance and determination. One of her proudest moments in high school was when she was inducted into the National Honors Society. As she states, “Being inducted into this group showed me that all the hard classes I had taken, and all the extra things I did or tried to do really did payoff”. In the next ten years, Elene wants to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care Administration and then pursue a Master’s Degree in Public Health.

Laura Dean Scholarship Memorial Scholarship:  Established in March 2001 through a bequest of funding from the estate of a former Fairview Park teacher and former Fairview High principal, Laura Dean. Ms. Dean’s teaching and administrative career in the Fairview Park Schools began in 1929 and lasted for 45 years. Her first assignment was teaching mathematics to elementary students and later serving as the second principal of Fairview High School. It was at her request that the scholarship awards be given to young women pursuing careers in mathematics or in the field of applied mathematics.
Our winners are Danielle Deutsch & Chloe Logterman – Two $1,000 scholarships

Our first recipient, Danielle Deutsch ranks 2nd in her class with a 4.4318 GPA. She will attend Bowling Green State University in the fall pursuing a degree in Integrated Mathematics Education. While attending Fairview High School Danielle has taken 9 AP classes; AP US History, AP Biology, AP Government, AP Language and Composition AP Calculus, and AP Literature and Composition, to just name a few. She was also an active member of the National Honor Society, Band, and Yearbook staff. Danielle has also held a number of leadership roles. In Band, she was Treasurer, Vice President and Trumpet Section Leader. Currently, she holds the position of editor of the Yearbook. She feels she leads best by her example of always being prepared for any task that comes her way. Danielle sees her two greatest strengths as her hardworking ethic and the fact that she is a very reliable person. She says, “I am a very committed person to everything I am involved in, and I can always be relied upon to get things done with my best effort.”

Our second recipient, Chloe Logterman, ranks 5th in her class, and will graduate with a 3.5 GPA. She plans to attend West Virginia University in the fall and pursue a BSN degree (Bachelor of Science in Nursing.) Chloe has taken AP courses at Fairview and is also enrolled in Tri -C’s CCP program (College Credit Plus), she was Captain of the Varsity Girls Basketball Team, MVP of the team and also a Scholar Athlete, and earned All-Conference recognition. On the Drill Team, she was Captain 3 times and Scholar Athlete. When she wasn’t involved her school work, she volunteered at University Hospital in the pediatric cancer unit. Chloe believes her two greatest strengths are her empathy and maturity. She says that her empathy helps her to understand what other people are going through and she can be more understanding of their situations. One of her proudest moments in high school was when she won the Excellence in Leadership award for the basketball team her senior year. As she said, “Winning that award was a proud moment for me because that is something I have worked for my entire high school career.”

Shirley Docherty Memorial Scholarship: Established in 2013 by her children Denise Devine and David in memory of their mother Shirley Docherty. Shirley was a homemaker most of her life but after she graduated high school she drew maps for the War Department. After the war, she was employed for NACA, (now known as NASA) were she worked as a graphic artist in the Aircraft Engine Research Lab.   This $500 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding art student pursuing a degree in Art/Graphic Arts at a college or university.
Our winner is Brian Lachowski – $500 scholarship

Brian will attend Cleveland State University and pursue a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree in Film and Media Arts. While at Fairview, Brian was very active in the Key Club, FHS Stagecrafters, FHS Marching Band, and FHS Student News. Brian also was a hospital volunteer, and worked at The Center for Arts-Inspired Learning’s Art Works. This is an Arts based job training and college readiness program where students work as apprentices under the guidance of master teaching artists. He sees his strengths as being able to work well with others and his creativity in problem solving. One of his proudest moments in high school was when he participated in the 2017 winter play “Little Women”. This experience gave Brian a tremendous boost of confidence and it was chance for him to break out of his shell and try something different. In the next ten years, Brian wants to inspire people with his films and to make them feel good. As he says, “Film is my creative way to tell a story”.

Fairview Park Education Foundation Scholarship:  Established in 2018, the criterion is overall academic/community and school achievement.

Our winners are Grant Howes & Sarah Rinehart – Two $1,000 scholarships

Our first recipient, Grant Howes ranks 10th in his class and will graduate with a 4.27 GPA. Grant will attend The Ohio State University in the fall and pursue a degree in Business/Finance. Grant has taken numerous AP classes at Fairview, and has been Class President for four years, a member of the Key Club, a member of the In Club (Special Education Helper), and a member of the National Honors Society. He has also been active in extracurricular activities such as Band, Basketball (Captain of the team), and Captain of the Track and Field Team. He is active in his church at Messiah Lutheran where he is an Usher/Lector and he has planned mission trips to Detroit and Chicago. Grant sees his biggest strength as his compassionate nature, always trying to make people feel good. He also has a great deal of confidence in himself and knows he can handle any task that comes his way. In the next ten years, Grant wants to travel to exciting places in the world and to start up his business. He has a passion for entrepreneurship and he really wants to do this.

Our second recipient, Sarah Rinehart ranks 11th in her class and will graduate with a 4.2245 GPA. She will attend the University of Cincinnati in the fall and pursue a degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She is a member of the Key Club, Academic Team, Stagecrafters, National Honors Society, and was manager of the FHS Talent Show from 2014-2018. She also participated in Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Softball, but due to medical issues with her knees and joints, she had to finally discontinue playing these sports. Sarah has also received a number of honors at Fairview. She was AP Scholar with Honors Award winner, 5 Scholar Athlete Awards, 6 Varsity Letters, and 15 consecutive quarts on the Principal’s list. She sees her two greatest strengths as her ability to empathize and her flexibility. Because of these qualities, Sarah believes she can successful in many different environments. In the next ten years, Sarah wants to obtain her degree, but also work with special needs children and also dedicate time to helping those children in foster care. This summer, Sarah will work at a special camp that provides fun and support for children who have experienced abuse or neglect and are in foster homes.

Maxine Field Memorial Scholarship:  Established in 2016 by the Field children in memory of their mother Maxine A. Field (nee Waack). Maxine was a proud resident of Fairview Park. She graduated from FHS in 1948 where she was head majorette for the marching band. In 1948 she was Miss Ohio in the Miss America pageant and in 1966 she was Mrs. Ohio in the Mrs. America pageant. Maxine was a model and fashion coordinator for many local stores and malls. She also enjoyed singing, dancing and the theater where she acted in many local little theater productions and musicals.
Our winner is Seth Ketchum – $1,000 scholarship

Seth ranks 30th in his class and will graduate with a 3.847 GPA. He will attend Bowling Green State University in the fall and pursue a degree in Music Education and Vocal Performance. Seth has been accepted in to the Bowling Green State University honors college because of his 4.0 GPA in his Tri-C College classes, test scores, and his well-written essay for acceptance. He has also been a member of the FHS Chorale and FHS Show Choir. Seth also played Varsity Soccer for four years. Even though Seth says he has never held a leadership position, he believes he has strong organizational and assessment abilities. One of his strengths is his ability to quickly adapt to changes around him. As he states, ‘”moving from honors classes, to AP classes, and then to postsecondary classes, I was always able to adjust to the new work load and succeed.” In the next ten years, Seth would like to travel outside the country and see new things and how different cultures bring out different aspects of people and yet how much we have in common.

Dorothy Graab Memorial Scholarship:  Established in 2013 by children Donald and Janet Graab Miller in memory of their mother Dorothy Graab. She graduated from Warwood High School in West Virginia where she played oboe and glockenspiel in the band and graduated as the valedictorian in 1944. After graduation, she enrolled at Northwestern University where she majored in chemistry.  Dorothy continued to study piano until graduation in 1948. In 1948 she joined the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), a forerunner of NASA, as a chemist at the Lewis Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dorothy was an active volunteer in civic and community groups. She served as PTA president multiple times and was an elected school board member, ultimately serving as president of the Fairview Park School Board.  A lifelong lover of music, Dorothy was an accomplished piano player who took great pleasure and pride over the years in supporting the Cleveland Orchestra.

Our winner is Melissa Lynn – $750.00 scholarship

Melissa is ranked 8th in her class and will graduate with a 4.4 GPA. She will attend Baldwin Wallace University in the fall pursuing a degree in Pre-Physical Therapy. At Fairview, Melissa participated in the Chamber Orchestra/String Orchestra, Scarlet Singers/Chorale, FHS Marching Band, FHS Jazz Band, FHS Stagecrafters, Key Club, and National Honors Society. Outside of school, she was a member of the Singing Angels, a Crisis Counselor, and a member of the Fairview Fine Arts and Theatre Association. She has also won numerous honors such as the Director’s Award for Orchestra, 15 consecutive quarters on the Principal’s List, and Excellent and Superior ratings at Greater Cleveland Solo and Ensemble competitions. Melissa has come to see that her kind-heartedness and outgoing personality have come to define her. While she has had many outstanding moments in her high school career, Melissa feels that maintaining a 4.0 GPA in her college classes has been the proudest moment in high school for her.

Judson Graab Memorial Scholarship: Established in 2013 by children Donald and Janet Graab Miller in memory of their father Judson Graab. He attended Ohio Wesleyan University where he majored in chemistry. Judson's time at Ohio Wesleyan was interrupted by his service in the US Army during World War II. Upon graduation in 1948 he joined the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), a forerunner of NASA, as a chemist at the Lewis Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Judson remained at NASA for his entire career, serving as the longtime head of the analytical chemistry department and he retired in 1978.

Judson was also part of the team of parents who created the Fairview Park Band Boosters and establishing the annual Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast. Upon his retirement, Judson worked with the Fairview High School auto shop as a volunteer. His continued support was acknowledged by the Fairview Park Education Association with their Friend of Education award in 1992.

Our winner is Rachel Boyette – $750.00 scholarship

Rachel ranks 1st in her class and will graduate with a 4.54 GPA. In the fall, she will attend Wittenberg University and pursue a degree in Chemistry and Bio Chemistry. She was a member of Stagecrafters, The Academic Team, Key Club, and National Honor Society. Her activities outside of school included Providence House, PTA Resale, Senior Prom Committee, and Warrior Relays. Rachel has won numerous awards at Fairview High School such as Principal’s List, Academic Athlete, Academic Letter, Member of scarlet Court, and Phi Beta Kappa Award Recipient. She sees her two greatest strengths as her determination/fierce motivation and her ability to see multiple perspectives which leads to critical thinking. One of her proudest moments in high school was when she was inducted into National Honors Society, of which she is now president. In the next ten years, Rachel wants to be one of the many scientists that usher in a new era of modern medicine, with new breakthroughs, and advancements. As she says, “I want to make a difference in the world, difference for the better.”

Fred J. and Betty J. Helwig Scholarship:  A scholarship was given in the names of their parents’ honor by the Helwig children. The scholarship was created in 1999 and funded each year by the Helwig children. The scholarships are awarded to hard-working students who demonstrate initiative, self-motivation and a desire to achieve. In addition to the scholarship award, the scholarship recipient’s names will be added to a permanent plaque that hangs in the Fairview High School halls to commemorate this award.
Our winners are Anne King & Hannah Lutsock –
Two $1,000 scholarships renewable for up to four years of college attendance

Our first recipient, Anne King, is ranked 7th in her class and will graduate with a 4.36 GPA. She will attend Kent State University in the fall, and pursue a degree in Public Health Pre-Medicine. She choose Kent State because it offers her the opportunity to get both a BS in Public Health and Pre-Medicine and a Masters in clinical epidemiology and she will be able to go two study abroad trips, one being to the Geneva World Health Conference. Anne is a member of Student Government, and National Honors Society. She has been a member of the Varsity Volleyball Team and has participated in Track and Field. She sees her two greatest strengths as her grace under fire persona and her seemingly neurotic determination that make her unstoppable. In the next ten years, Anne wants to use her degrees to a medical position in a country where are people less privileged then her. As she says, “I want to explore and help people through medicine.

Our second recipient, Hannah Lutsock, is ranked 41st in her class and will graduate with a 3.59 GPA. In the fall, Hannah will attend Baldwin Wallace University where she will pursue a degree in Education: Mild Moderate ED needs (K-12) and a Minor in Math. Hannah is a member of National Honors Society, Key Club, In Club, and has been a Basketball Cheerleader, a member of Drill Team, and has performed with the Scarlett Singers. Hannah feels she is a very optimistic and positive person who has a great sense of enthusiasm and determination. She looks for unique ways to solve problems and never gives up. One of her proudest moments at Fairview was when she was inducted into the National Honors Society. In the next ten years, after graduating from Baldwin Wallace University and becoming a teacher with a reading endorsement, Hannah would like to help students realize the goal of learning to read despite obstacles.

Hall of Fame Scholarship:  Established in 2015 by the Fairview Park Schools Halls of Fame. The Hall of Fame committee honors three groups from the Fairview Park Public Schools; distinguished alumni, outstanding former athletes, exceptional (retired) faculty.
Our winner is Nicholas Miller – $500 scholarship

Nick is ranked 5th in his class with a 4.4048 GPA. He will attend Kent State University in the fall and pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education. While at Fairview High School, Nick was involved in a number of extracurricular activities. He was member of the Chorale, Show Choir, Stagecrafters, Key Club, and was member of National Honor Society. In Show Choir and Key Club, Nick is currently President, and is Co-President of Stagecrafters. He was also a member of the Varsity Boys Soccer Team and Varsity Track and Field Team. Nick believes that his most powerful traits as a leader are his optimistic attitude and his kindness towards people. One of his proudest moments in high school was when he was nominated by his teachers and fellow classmates to be Homecoming King. In the next ten years, Nick hopes to inspire as many students as he can to have a passion for learning and to have confidence in themselves and their abilities. He says, “I never want to lose hope for a better tomorrow.”Mary

Mary Hoertz Memorial Scholarship:  A $250.00 scholarship is given to a graduating senior who has shown leadership, community involvement, school participation and academic ability.

Our winner is Nicholas Reyes – $250 scholarship

Nick ranks 34th in his class and will graduate with a 3.68 GPA. In the fall, he will attend Dayton University and pursue a degree in Business. Nick has been Executive President of Student Council, a member of the In Club, (group of students helping to mentor Special Needs Students), and has been director of a YouTube Sports Talk Show called FHS Season Tickets. He was a member of the Varsity Basketball team and has been active in his church youth group (YOSA). He believes his greatest leadership trait is his ability to communicate well with others. Nick sees his two greatest strengths as communication skills and leadership qualities. His proudest moment in high school was taking AP Biology and finishing the class with a B+ average. His personal goals for the next ten years are graduating from Dayton University and being recognized as a top performer for whatever he chooses to do. As he says, “I expect the best out of myself. I will settle for nothing less”.

Michael Holick Memorial Scholarship:  This $500.00 scholarship was established in 2008 by the Holick family. Michael Holick was proud to be a resident of Fairview Park for 56 years and loved his community. He was married to Jeanne in 1951 and his four children are all graduates of Fairview High School. His talents as a master finish carpenter for 56 years are appreciated today as he is responsible for building his family home and homes for his children in Fairview Park, in addition to rebuilding the corner of West 204 th Street and Lorain Road. He was also involved with many building, renovating and remodeling projects in the Cleveland vicinity.  Michael was an active member of the Carpenters Local Union 1108 and the memory of his talents, love and support of his family and pride in his city will shine forever.

Our winner is Elijah Hilderbrand – $500 scholarship

Elijah ranks 45th in his class and will graduate with a 3.5 GPA. He will be attending Cuyahoga Community College in the fall where he will study to become a Paramedic. Elijah has been a member of the Orchestra, Key Club, National Honor Society, and the National Technical Honor Society at Polaris Career Center. He has also been a member of the Soccer and Track and Field Teams. Outside of school, he has participated in the Recycling Materials in Fairview Park Program and is very active in the Boy Scouts where he holds the leadership position of Senior Patrol Leader. One of his proudest high school moments was when he passed his Emergency Medical Technician Certification test. He knew he had secured his future. In the next ten years, Elijah would like to earn all of the requirements to train EMS/Fire Fighter students. As he says, “Training the next generation of public safety workers is essential to the safety of our communities.”

Robert V. and Rose T. Kundmueller Memorial Scholarship:  (originally the Robert V. Kundmueller Memorial Scholarship) Established by the Kundmueller Family in 1990 in memory of Bob Kundmueller.  The scholarship is also in memory of Rose Kundmueller who passed away on November 14, 2014.

Bob and Rose became residents of the city of Fairview Park as newlyweds in 1955, raised six children who were educated in the Fairview Park School System, and were local Fairview Park business owners for many years.

Bob was the Foundation’s founding treasurer and trustee, involved in numerous civic organizations, and a Fairview Park Citizen of the Year recipient.  Rose was actively involved in the PTA and they both were strong advocates and supporters of the Fairview Park schools.

The scholarship is funded on behalf of the proceeds totaling $108,000 from the Robert V. Kundmueller Memorial Golf Tournament – the Foundation’s annual fundraiser that occurred for 18 consecutive years.

Our winner is Ian Broadbent – $3,000 scholarship

Ian ranks 8th in his class and will graduate with a 4.39 GPA. He will attend Ohio State University in the fall and pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Some of his high school extracurricular activities include being a member of Student Council, National Honors Society, Key Club, and National Technical Honors Society. He participated on the Boys Varsity Soccer Team. Outside of school, Ian was involved in his church youth group (YOGA), was a volunteer for the St. Coleman’s Community Meal, Providence House Deck the Hall Event, and the Achievement Center for Children Adapted Soccer Program. Ian has also won numerous honors/recognitions while in school; Academic Letter Winner, AP Scholar with Honors, Principal’s List Academic All Ohio(2017), PAC Scholar Athlete, National Technical Honors Society, and Fairview High School Scarlet Court. He sees his two greatest strengths as his intense commitment to any project or task he is given and his listen ability. In the next ten years, Ian wants to graduate from Ohio State University’s College of Engineering with Honors and to continue to strengthen his leadership skills and give back through mentoring and volunteering.

Lewis F. Mayer Memorial Scholarship:  A $500.00 scholarship is awarded to an outstanding Fairview High School senior, in memory of Mr. Mayer, a humanitarian of Fairview Park, an educator, principal and the first superintendent of the Fairview Park Schools, serving from 1921 to 1964.

Our winner is Soile’ Talmadge – $500 scholarship

Soile` ranks 21st in her class and will graduate with a 3.99GPA. She will attend North Central College where she will pursue a degree in the Social Sciences, namely Anthropology/Biology. Soile` was in the Key Club (Vice President), Stagecrafters, and National Honors Society. She also ran Track and Field for four years, and was on the Drill Team for four years, @years as Captain. She has volunteered at Fairview Hospital, Cleveland Food Bank, and Hiram Farms. Soile` sees her two greatest strengths as her open mindedness and her taking an interest in other people’s perspectives. These two traits can be seen in Soile’s proudest moment in high school when she decided to join the Stagecrafters Theatre production this year. As she says, “I have always been interested in the performing arts, and participating in this production assured me that I should absolutely pursue the arts in college in order to make myself happier and gain more all-around confidence.” In the next ten years, Soile` wants to work at spreading knowledge awareness about social and health issues that are important to all people.

Nelson Russ Memorial Scholarship:  Established in 2001 by Mrs. Fern Russ, in memory of her late husband, Nelson. Mr. Russ served as the Recreational Director for Fairview Park, served on the Fairview Park City Council and was one of our City’s Citizens of the Year. Mr. Russ served three decades on the faculty at Fairview High and distinguished himself as Fairview High School’s first Varsity football coach.

Our winner is Robert Reilley – $500 scholarship

Robert ranks 20th in his class and will graduate with a 3.9975 GPA. In the fall, he will attend Ohio State University and pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Robert was very active at FHS, participating in the Key Club, Student Council, Stagecrafters, National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, and being a member of the football team for four years. He also received numerous honors and recognitions such as Code of Conduct and Great Teammate Award for football, Patriot Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete Award, AP Scholar with Honors, National Honors Society, and he has already been accepted into the Scholars Program at The Ohio State University for this coming fall. One of his proudest moments in high school was when he got the lead role of George Bailey in the Stagecrafter’s school production of “It’s a Great Life”. Robert’s goals in the next ten years are to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and then a Master’s degree in Business Administration.
